Pretty Love Birds! Sharing Tradition through Jewelry!
Handmade 14kt Gold Fill Love Bird Arracada Earrings
Hola & Happy New Year, Everyone!
I want to say thank you for supporting my craft! I'm very grateful to be able to design beautiful
Jewelry, with a cultural flair! I get so excited to make something special for a loved one or a
Special occasion. These Arracadas were created in a Traditional Mexican Style, to bring the
Experience of having a part of our culture through a pair of Gold Arracadas!
These Hand Crafted Love Bird Arracadas are a symbol of love, culture and history! Arracadas
mean "hoop" In Spanish, and it's believed that the two lovebirds are worn to show that you are
Spoken for or taken. Therefore the design bears two lovebirds on top instead of a single bird.
So if a women in town was seen with these earrings on, a man new if he could ask her out.
I wanted to bring forth a very Traditional Spanish Earring, so I created these earrings in 14kt
Gold Fill. This is a design that you would find in your Grandmother's Jewelry Box. A Heirloom
that could be seen as a piece that could be passed down for generations.
Mexico considers gold a National Treasure, therefore gold cannot be exported from Mexico!
So knowing this I decided to create my own Arracadas, casted from a vintage arracada earring
Lovebirds and a vintage rose that I found at a thrift store in Chimayo, New Mexico!
As I designed These earrings I couldn't help but think of my daughters, Great Grandmother also
Known as "Mami Salome". She was born in Guatemala at the turn of the Century. She always
wore traditional Gold Coin Arracadas, traditional style of earrings in Guatemala & Her Corte
beautiful Huipils, the most brilliant colors, floral designs all handmade to her
Specifications.
She was a Self Made women in Guatemala. Her husband died at an early age, and she found
Herself a widow before she was 30! So she built herself a beautiful home in Downtown Xela,
Also known as Quetzaltenango and created her business. She was known through the city, she
knew Quiche and several Mayan dialects and traveled the world.
These Arracadas were created to Honor all our Nanas, to keep their memory alive in us.
To keep all their tradition, hard work and culture preserved in each pair. My hopes were to have
everyone who see's them and wear them, keep their memories for generations to come alive.
Xoxo,
Chicana in the City
